With the introduction of city taxes throughout various cities in Italy, guests will be obliged to pay these taxes directly to their hotel, either on arrival or at check-out.
Costs will vary as taxes are dependant on city, star rating, length of stay and seasonality.

As of 1 January, 2011 every guest staying inside Rome’s boundaries, with the sole exception of hostels, will be required to pay a Overnight Accommodation Tax at the end of each stay. Per the Rome Department of Tourism, the fee must be paid by the guest.
The fee, which is intended to financially assist the city’s efforts in organizing urban services, is aimed at ensuring the standard of the tourists’ stay is both highly efficient and of the best quality.
